Cranford Man Serves as Archivist For Two Iconic NYC Radio Stations

When we think of history and how it’s saved we often consider photographs, written records and moving pictures. What’s sometimes overlooked is the audio record of the past. Andy Lanset is in charge of finding, restoring and cataloging the extensive collection of audio from two of the New York area’s most iconic radio stations; WNYC and WQXR. Lanset is an audio archivist for New York Public Radio and one Saturday morning two radio veterans got together to talk about his unique profession.

Update on Gateway Project

It’s called one of the most important infrastructure projects in the United States. The Gateway Program has several major components including new rail tunnels under the Hudson River and the replacement of the 108-year old Portal Drawbridge over the Hackensack River. Tuesday evening the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition sponsored a presentation on the project in the Cranford Community Center. The main speaker was Jerry Zaro, the chairman of the Gateway Development Corporation. Cranford Radio spoke with Zaro after the meeting to get a status update.

100 Steps Continues to Evolve Under Current Owner and Chef

Andrea and Jim Carbine opened 100 Steps Supper Club + Raw Bar in December 2013, six years after creating A Toute Heure. Two years ago the Carbines sold both Centennial Avenue restaurants and Saad “Jack” Tagmouti bought the respected eatery. Tagmouti brought on an old colleague, Joe Beninato, as the executive chef and together they’ve brought their own ideas to 100 Steps. The two talked with Cranford Radio about their experiences and their plans to keep the restaurant fresh and progressive.

Congressman Tom Malinowski Holds Town Hall in Cranford

Seventh District Congressman Tom Malinowski held a town hall at Union County College in Cranford Saturday afternoon. Audience members had an opportunity to ask the new representative questions on a variety of topics. At the conclusion, Cranford Radio spoke with the representative about the event and his first months in Congress.
