The second episode of 35Live aired on TV35 Thursday evening. Kurt Petschow Jr., the president of the Cranford Board of Education was our guest on the hour-long program. We covered a wide variety of topics, including the strategic plan, the impact of development on the schools and standardized testing.

Talking Education with Cranford Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Rubin

It could be argued that the Cranford Public Schools have the biggest impact on the township in many ways. Dr. Scott Rubin came to the school system as superintendent last summer, taking over for interim superintendent Dr. Marilyn Birnbaum.

Cranford Radio met with Dr. Rubin in his office at Lincoln School and used the time to learn a bit about his background and some of the goals he has, as well as the challenges he sees.

Sunny Acres and Dental Office Recognized with Historic Preservation Awards

The Sunny Acres Civic and Improvement Association and 120 Walnut Avenue were recognized Sunday afternoon with 2018 Cranford Historic Preservation Awards by the Cranford Historical Society and the Cranford Historic Preservation Advisory Board in a ceremony at the Hanson House. Sunny Acres is the first association recognized in the seven years of the award. The building at 120 Walnut Avenue is home of the dental practice of Dr. Thomas Pijanowski.

Cranford Radio spoke with Maureen Strazdon, the chair of HPAB and Carole Esposito, president of the Sunny Acres Civic and Improvement Association, about the award.

Shining Stars to Debut at Union County Performing Arts Center May 4

The Shining Stars Network has done annual performances at Cranford schools for the past six years. This year will be special as they move to the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway. Beth Wolfe is an assistant director for the group she and Ryan Fay, who will again emcee the show, talked with Cranford Radio about the upcoming show and what it means to the special needs community who are featured.

Interview with Cranford Deputy Mayor Ann Dooley

Just four months into her term as the deputy mayor and 15 months into her service on the township committee, Ann Dooley sat down with Cranford Radio for a get acquainted session. As we’ve done during interviews with other elected officials serving Cranford, the purpose of this interview was to learn a bit more about her background and what drove her to serve in elected office.
